Some words from David Hooper:

"Back in the summer of 1990 a friend was staying with me and had a toy keyboard that had some rinky dink sounds in it. We played around with it and were astonished at what we actually squeezed out of it so we recorded some songs.

This was enough to inspire me to go buy a real keyboard and a computer. I had done musical theatre for a number of years and had a dream of being a singer in my own band so I began writing songs in my makeshift bedroom studio. I needed a name for the band and agony&ecstasy was born.

I continued to write songs and began working with my good friend Adam Popowitz (Mollies Revenge, YveAdam, Pacifica) who taught me much about writing songs. He began to get busy with his own band and I was forced to pick up the guitar to keep my sound consistent. We continue to work together however he is usually on the road with his own projects.

I had decided in 1998 to become a full fledged 'Media Artist' working with audio and video. I recorded my first two CDs in 1999 while at Vancouver Film School but never released them as mp3s and distribution for indie artists was in its infancy at that time. I continued recording and refining my sound and studio and was planning on releasing a new album in 2002. This was sidelined when I got into a bad car accident in 2001.

I didn't have much energy and found it difficult to sing for quite some time after the accident so the album was stalled. I began to get back to it a year or so later but was then informed I had a bad spinal chord injury and would have to have major neck surgery or I would likely end up a quadriplegic. I decided I needed to finish the album at that time or I might never get the chance.

As a result I recorded 'Hearts and Minds' and finished it up the best I could before the surgery. Fortunately everything turned out for the best and the surgery was a success so I had a little more time and was able to finish the album up, sometimes even singing in my neck brace. Now at six months later I have had a remarkable recovery, am thinking of putting a live band together, and looking forward to recording more albums in the near future."
