 | About Time
Her debut release, About Time, is a beautiful fusion of her stylistic influences. Produced by Grammy nominee, David Ivory, at Dylanava Studios, the songs are mature with thoughtful and intelligent lyrics put to enchanting melodies. Carla has penned most of the songs alongside David and collaborated with different members of an amazing assortment of songwriters (Gabriel Antonini, Bill Currier, Chris Jobes, Pete Keenan, Joe Lam, Brian McMahon, John Torres) with the exception of a hauntingly beautiful rendition of U2’s One. Her evocative vocals communicate the songs with an experienced, heartfelt honesty that is a much-needed ingredient in today’s music. The tracks are each very different and yet somehow have a common thread running through them that makes them recognizable as Gio’s style.

Song descriptions from "About Time"
The first track, Watching You Walk Away, with its complex, tribal drumbeat and a contagiously driving chorus is a tune written by Gio, Ivory, Torres and Antonini. “I wanted a primal feel somewhere in the record. A song that I could really let loose to. This was the perfect answer. ”
Breathe Your Love “was just one of those songs that really clicked for Chris (Jobes) and me. I loved the melody and the lyrics just came naturally to me. It wrote itself pretty much.”
When I’m Gone is smooth with jazzy undertones culminating in an emotional finish. It features Baldwin’s cool rap throughout and “Blondie” Jeff Van Stenz’s singing trumpet “This song took almost the full two years to get right. We (Gio, Jobes, Ivory) would put it down , pick it back up, put it down again. I’m so incredibly happy we picked it back up.”
Pete Keenan wrote Why Can’t You See. It’s dark and subtle and yet it’s so openly angry. “It struck a chord with me on a bad day. I love it. We’ve all wanted to say its message at one time or another.”
The upbeat, buoyant southern rock-ish song of the CD is Love Is On Its Way written by Torres, McMahon, Ivory and Gio. “This song is such great fun. It has a definite humor to it and I love performing it live.”
The Way You Make Me Feel is a beautifully emotional tune that has some crossover possibilities. Written by Gio and Currier, it was the second set of tracks laid down for the record. “I’m thrilled with how this came out. I think it’s a wonderfully bittersweet love song.”
The spacious and unrestrained Into Nothing is Gio’s baby with a beautiful melody written by Joe Lam. “These lyrics just poured out of me one day while I was doing a god-awful office job. Joe (Lam) was exactly on my wavelength when he read them and just perfected a timeless melody line and hook for the song. It’s a highly personal piece and he nailed the precise emotion and simplicity for it.”
Echo In My Head is another song with crossover potential. It’s ironically a song with a very cheery feel written about unrequited love and adoration from afar. “
As for One, I loved putting my own spin on a song that I’ve loved for so long. I just hope that U2 would approve of my treatment of it.”
Finally, the last track, Heart Is Gone…it’s hypnotic and simple at the same time. It provokes sadness in lyric and melody. There is a wistful longing that lingers as the song fades away into nothing.
About Time has been in the works since 2002, and was released in April of 2004. “The journey has been a long but fantastic one. I’ve learned so much about myself and about the music and about the business. I hope that people will hear this as the labor of love that it is for me. It’s very personal in a lot of ways – some of which are admittedly pretty obscure. But, I’m not ashamed of that. Shit happens to people and they can either fall apart or they can use it to their advantage. I opt for the latter now.”
