Something About The Sun 'Something About The Sun' from Hidden Symmetry is an eclectic mix of fusion music written by guitarist Carl Eichman. The 10 tracks boast a wide of variety of styles from Latin & jazz (a la Chick Corea on the adventurous 'Crooked Mile'); to a Gershwin meets Jeff Beck blues on 'Deep Inside A Real Big Empty'. This also happens to be an Internet collaboration featuring the talents of bassist Bill Lawrence from N.Y. & Filippo Bertacche on drums from Italy. One would never guess these musicians have never met before as the songs sound as if they performed & recorded in the same studio.
Textural elements, twists & turns dot the landscape through the entire cd. Carl's unique writing style crosses the lines of pop, fusion & new-age realms. There's a commercial quality in the tracks yet a progressive edge blends them together nicely making for an interesting listen. Many influences can be heard in his guitar playing, from jazz to rock, from Pat Metheny to Allan Holldsworth & layered harmonies reminiscent of Queen's Brian May; yet he maintains his own distinctive & creative style.
