About the band:
The Jambalaya Brass Band is New York City's ultimate New Orleans party band. Kickin' it hard with a flavor straight from the streets.They pay their respects to the unique musical traditions of New Orleans incorporating a special blend of R&B, Funk, Gospel, Traditional Jazz, Zydeco, Latin, Hip Hop and Be-Bop into an infectious sound that will start you dancing and raise your spirits.
Since their inception in 1998, they have played Huntington Summer Arts Festival 2002 (opening for Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-chas), 7th Avenue Fall Street Fair 2002 and the Columbus Avenue Street Fair 2003 in NYC, Good Day New York on Fox 5 NYC for Mardi Gras 2002, Britney Spears' 2002 Super Bowl Party, Mardi Gras 2000 for the New York Knicks half-time show, a New York Liberty's half-time show at Madison Square Garden in the summer of 2001, 52nd Street Americana Jazz Festival, Tribeca Blues, The Bayou Restaurant(Mt.Vernon,NY), Brooklyn Conservatory, Cornelia Street Cafe, The Mardi Gras Restaurant, Big Daddy's Restaurant, the Chelsea Brewing Company, Town of Hempstead Summer Concert Series 2003, Summer Plaza Series2003(Brooklyn Arts Council), Prospect Park(Brooklyn)Halloween Event 2003 and 2004.
Ric Frank - leader, tenor Sax, vocals, zydeco tie, percussion
Ric has performed with Duke Ellington Orchestra, Ray Santos Caribbean Music Experience, Louie Ramirez, Henry Fiol, Armando Manznero, Yolandita Monge, Bobby Rodriguez Y Nueva Compania , American Renaissance Theatre Chamber Ensemble, Johnny Allen, Michael J. Packer, Todd Wolfe, Dallas Fisher,'Tuff' Jeff Salen, Steve Tintweiss,Jerome Callet's Stratosphere Big Band and sits in regularly with the Rebirth Brass Band in NYC. Ric has received grants from, Meet The Composer, Van Horne Foundation For Excellence In Teaching and an ASCAP Plus Award.
Walt Szymanski - trumpet, vocals, percussion
Walt has performed with J.C Heard Orchestra , Ms. Jo Thompson, Eddie Kendricks, David Rufffin, Martha Reeves, the Temptations, the Four Tops, the O'Jays, Johnny Taylor, Brides of Funkenstein, Ray Santos Caribbean Music Experience, Jimmy Madison, George Gee and The Jump Jive and Wailers, Gumbo Ya Ya, the Metropolitan Brass Quintet, and the Harlem Festival Orchestra.
Shawn Edmonds - trumpet, vocals, percussion
Shawn is also currently with the Count Basie Orchestra and has performed with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Quincy Jones Orchestra and Chaka Kahn.
Curtis Fowlkes - trombone, vocals, percussion
Curtis is a co-founder of the Jazz Passengers and has also performed with The Lounge Lizards, Charlie Haden, Bill Frissel, Louis Bellson Big Band, Marc Ribot, John Zorn, Sheryl Crow, Don Byron, and leads his own group Catfish Corner.
Joe Hrbek - alto sax, vocals, percussion
Joe also can be seen with Melvin Sparks.
Alex Harding- bari sax, vocals, percussion
Alex has performed with the Sun Ra Arkestra Aretha Franklin, Julius Hemphill's Saxphone Sextet, Muhal Richard Abrams, Craig Harris, Lester Bowie, Frank Lacey, Oliver Lake Big Band, David Murray Big Band, Mingus Big Band, Cab Calloway Orchestra, DeFunkt.
