 | Left Of July The title of Jenny Bruce’s recent release, Left Of July, was taken from a lyric in a song of the same name. The song was written for Bruce’s friend James Larsen who lost his battle with cancer at the young age of 32 shortly before recording began. “Seems a heavy price to pay for being born a little left of July” Bruce wrote articulating the seeming randomness of events in life. The songs on this album poignantly reflect that point of view.

| | Soul on Fire "...An intelligent record full of pathos and gentle ironies; sort of like Paula Cole, but not nearly as whiny. This is Tripple A as good as it gets, which means it's right on the verge of being pop."

| | | Jenny Bruce “Her self-titled debut is a delirious mix of emotional, narrative, and stream-of-consciousness writing powered by her elegant, but wizened vocals. A lot of women picked up guitars to join the Lilith trend, but Bruce is the real thing.”

A Note from Jenny
New York City is the place where I was born and raised. My parent's didn't have much, but they did have a beautiful Mason & Hamlin Grand Piano with real ivory keys. It was my favorite toy growing up (I destroyed the ivory pretty quickly...). I began singing and writing songs as soon as I could reach the ivories.
Although I hate being compared to anyone, I've often been told that I remind people of Shawn Colvin with a hint of Carole King, Sarah McLachlan, and sometimes Paula Cole. I grew up listening to everything from Coltrane, Motown, Disco, Gershwin, R&B, Rachmaninoff, loads of Prince and The Police. I loved The Police.
A few cool things worth noting -
"Music To My Ears" from my first self-titled CD was included in an episode of Dawson's Creek last year and my song "Home" from my new CD, "Soul On Fire" is included in a compilation CD called "Sleepytime" that Martha Stewart released this fall - "it's a good thing!" I'm the only unsigned artist on the cd which includes Alison Krauss, Barenaked Ladies, Lucinda Williams, Eva Cassidy and others...
A few of my songs were included in the soundtrack for the Independent Feature Film, "Sex and the Other Man (not X-rated, I promise!)," directed by Karl Slovin starring Stanley Tucci and Ron Eldard, and the recent award winning Indie release "30 Days," directed by Aaron Harnick (star of Judy Berlin).
I was selected as runner up at the '99 New York Lilith Fair Talent Search and have showcased at many, many music festivals and conferences...
