LA’s own up-and comer Miles Mosley: Mosley, named after the great Miles Davis, began playing the bass at Palms Middle School in Inglewood California. Armed with a natural dexterity and speed on the bass Mosley instantly fell in love with the instrument. “I played one note and I was hooked,” he said.

The award winning jazz musician, who plays the piano, guitar, and bass grew up surrounded by the trumpets, horns, and pianos of jazz music. “Every Sunday morning I would wake up to the sounds of a Ray Brown or Miles Davis. I couldn’t hear the words I would just hear the bass rattling the pictures on the wall,” he recalls. Although he grew up listening to traditional jazz Mosley combines the contemporary with classic and his new CD entitled BEAR encompasses all of his musical influences. He has worked with artist such as India Arie, Lauren Hill, Terrence Howard, and Gnarls Barkley; from hip hop to classical he loves all genres of music but his heart will always remain true to jazz.

Miles Mosley is a 27 year-old ‘phenom’ bass and guitar player, vocalist, composer, & arranger trained in classical and jazz. He was born and raised in Hollywood, and though the majority of his life was spent romping around the streets of Los Angeles, he spent every summer from the time he was six down south in Pell City, Alabama. According to him, it was the countless hours spent within the confines of that town that imbedded in him a sound that would years later resurface, in an unexpected form.

A little history: there’s his classical training at the Colburn School of Music in Downtown Los Angeles, years of study with Jazz bass legends John Clayton, Ray Brown, and Al McKibbon, and undergraduate work at UCLA. He has won countless awards, including the Music Center's Spotlight Award, was selected to play bass for the 1996 Grammy All-American High School Jazz Band & Choir, and was acclaimed as a “Technical Virtuoso” by Los Angeles Times jazz critic, Don Heckman.

Miles is currently producing Terrence Howard’s new CD for Sony/BMG (he is also the leader, bass player, and co-wrote two of the tracks). In early November, he will begin touring the U.S. with Jonathan Davis of Korn performing a month-long series of acoustical shows (see www.milesmosley.com for venues and dates).

Over the past year he has recorded and/or toured with the following artists: Recorded the bass tracks for India Arie’s “Good Morning” (Testimony, Vol. 1); toured Europe with Fishbone and Dr. Madd Vibe; recorded and toured (bass player and Musical Director) for Grammy-Award winning artist, Ms. Lauryn Hill; performed/arranged tracks for the new Chris Cornell solo CD, ‘Carry On”; appeared on The Tonight Show w/Jay Leno performing the Bond movie “Casino Royale” theme song, ‘You Know My Name’ with Chris Cornell; performed/appeared in music videos for Sean King’s “Beautiful Girls” and ’Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics tour; performed on the 2007 Grammy Awards telecast with the Gnarls Barkley orchestra; at the Greek Theater with Jeff Beck under the musical direction of famed Beatles producer, George Martin; at The Playboy Jazz Festivals community concert, and performs regularly as part of the house band for the ‘Late Show with Carson Daly’ on NBC. Miles has also performed and/or recorded with numerous artists including Everlast, Kenny Loggins, Joni Mitchell, Jason Mraz, Melissa Etheridge, Herbie Hancock, Kenny Burrell, Jennifer Warnes, Mos Def and Common, to name a few. Miles is also an accomplished composer and has appeared on numerous independent film soundtracks.

Along with his extensive recording resume, Miles has become well known in the Los Angeles Music club circuit for his unique sound ‘Brothel Jazz’. His last CD “Taming The Proud” with all original lyrics and music, introduced a new, yet classic sound, blending jazz, pop, and swing. His performances of this new material have built a following with a diverse demographic audience in Los Angeles and surrounding areas.

Both jazz and rock audiences have embraced him at regular performances at venues that include the Key Club, Club Moscow, The Edison Downtown, Steamers Café, Citizen Smith, the Viper Room, 14 Below, Bar Sinister and The Mint in Los Angeles. Clubs in Las Vegas, Palm Springs, San Diego, and San Francisco have also booked his “Brothel Jazz” show. In addition to his jazz library of original music he has over 40 adult contemporary pop/rock and hip-hop songs that he has composed over the past three years.

In the fall of 2007 Miles will release his new CD “Bear”, a diverse mix of Brothel Jazz, Hip-Hop, classical, and contemporary rock.
