About Rogues & Wenches:

We are patrons of a 16th century Elizabethan alehouse, who sing for our mutual entertainment Irish, Scottish and English drinking songs, sea shanties and pirate fare mixed with sad love songs and happy war songs. A rogue is a man who is both a perfect scoundrel and a kind of entrepreneur of shamelessness. A rogue plunges forward when other men are restrained by some combination of moral scruples, fear and the capacity to blush. A rogue is someone who strays from the accepted path. A rogue is playfully mischievous, a scamp, a rascal. A wench is such a woman as would keep company with a rogue!

The Rogues
Hunter Woofter: bodhran, djembe, vocals
Kevin McClear: bass vocals
Ben James: guitar, lead vocals
Robert Woofter: harmonies, tin whistle

Hunter is the designated drummer simply because everyone else is too sauced to keep a steady rhythm; he claims to be the sole bastion of youth and vitality in a group of loud wrinkly drunks; he also shoulders the burden of keeping everyone else cool.

Kevin is a dour lad, tall and feckless, lacking jocularity. He has felled forests of cherry trees and will tell you so at any opportunity.

Ben spends his spare time helping little old ladies across the street, and once ate an entire wastepaper basket full of toenail clippings. He believes even people who don't like this music should buy this CD --- your hamster can use it for a room divider.

Robert, when he can be enticed back to civilization from the wilds of Alaska, pushes harmonies and modulations like they're controlled substances.

The Wenches
Shannon McClear: vocals
Erin Wells: vocals
Lucia Woofter: vocals, accordion, tin whistle, flute

Shannon believes that making nude snow angels and hot tubbing under the Aurora Borealis keeps a wench young. She's part of this motley crew with motley talents who manage to come together for bloody good times (and occasionally make music together.)

Erin spends her spare time knitting prosthetic appendages for flipper-less seals and she once walked to Talkeetna on her ass. Boy, did that burn.

Lucia is the ruddy button that holds Orion's trews in place; she's the one dancing by droplight in the quinzee; she's the slash that strikes the "t" and the saccharine in yer tae ... the practical dreamer.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Barleyjuice's Kyf Brewer, our musical mentor and the Viscount of Bellibones, to our sound engineer, Kevin Barnett, of Lovin' Dog Music, who helped shape our "Spirits" and Lisa and Angel of Celtic Treasures, who saw the merit in our twisted genius early on and who weren't afraid to invite us in! Slainte!
