More about Shawn Foster
Shawn Foster has been playing guitar for 41 years. At age nine, Shawn was signed up for lessons, and started attending classes once a week and within six monthes,Shawn was told he was Iofuso Tackahari's best student. Remember this was Flamenco and classical guitar we are talking about. Shawn continued to study for two more years and being an Air Force brat, moved on.
A few years later Shawn started picking up the guitar again and practicing, listening to just about every guitarist in the world in the flamenco and classical field. Shawn started developing his own technique while in high school, got into the electric guitar, and did the usual garage band thing almost every wanna-be aspiring guitarist goes through. In between teeny bopper parties Shawn started writing original compositions on his guitar, and was ready for his first gig.
At age sixteen, strolling tables in an Italian restaurant for tips was good extra money. High school talent contests followed, then graduation and off to the big city of Miami. He landed a job in a local nightclub , The Cocoanut Grove, and continued there until his pre-induction for the draft. Shawn was eighteen at the time.
Having passed his physical, Shawn applied for a college defermentand attended college as a music major. He took voice and string techniques.
Shawn was very active within the college performing solo guitar as well as accompaniment. He was also playing out at private parties and nightclubs. This was the real beginniing of serious instrumental guitar songwriting ,with many pieces being composed that Shawn still performs today. With college over, it was time to hit the road. Shawn has performed worldwide including the Far East.
Highlights include:
--Playing for a command performance in Italy for an Italian Prince in his Castle.
--Flamenco nightclubs in Madrid and South America.
--An "original soundtrack for a documentary called "A Fist Full Of Wind"
--Warm-up for big name acts such as Dave Brubeck, "Doc" Severinson, from the "Tonight Show," David Crosby from Crosby,Stills, and Nas, Dave Mason, Hellen Reddy, Herbie Mann, Spyro Gyra, and once at a function for George Bush Sr. |
