Will Connelly came from the original Tommy Keene band that formed in 1981 and was heard on Tommy's early albums up through "Songs From The Film" and toured with Tommy up to that point as well. After the breakup of the original TK band, Will and I went on to search for a label deal. We approached Columbia Records and Will and his band (featuring Doug Tull on drums from TK's band) played a private showcase for the big guys at Columbia. The immediate reaction was surprising - they loved Will and wanted to sign him. As the weeks went by toward the signing date, Will and I and his band felt pretty secure in the fact that the whispers at Black Rock (what most people in the music biz called the building in which Columbia Records resided) that Will was the next Bruce Springsteen, were true and that we were on our way to the deal we had always imagined, and one that Will certainly deserved. Murphy's Law came into play and all of a sudden there was no deal. To quote a vice president at CBS, "We've decided to look for more bands like Poi Dog Pondering and Kate Bush. Well, we all know what happened to Poi Dog Pondering. Consequently, CBS took an artistic nose dive and Will and I got so depressed that we just gave up. Too bad. Please take a listen to the tunes collected here and see if you don't agree - not that Will was the next Bruce - but that he was probably the next John Lennon/Paul McCartney combo in one.
